Applications are invited to fill a number of postdoctoral openings in theoretical astrophysics and general relativity for the coming academic year. Our research interests cover all major areas of theoretical astrophysics and general relativity, including the physics of compact objects, X-ray astrophysics, fluid dynamics, supernovae, active galactic nuclei, galaxy collisions, star and planet formation, galactic structure, gravitational collapse, the generation of gravitational waves, the dynamics of large N-body dynamical systems, relativistic stellar dynamics, accretion and radiation transport, cosmic microwave background, structure formation, dark matter, large scale structure, the early universe, Big-Bang nucleosynthesis and neutrino astrophysics. This list is not exhaustive. We wish to encourage applications from strong and creative individuals, regardless of specialty. The University of Illinois has a long and continuing record of achievement in theoretical astrophysics. We interact with other theorists in the Department, with the superb and large experimental group in the Department of Astronomy, and we have access to unparalleled facilities for computation through the National Center for Supercomputing Applications. Interested applicants should write to one of the faculty members listed below, enclosing vita, publication list, summary of ongoing and future research, and recent publications or preprints. In addition, each applicant should arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent; these and the application should be received by us no later than January 31, 2006. Applications received after this date cannot be guaranteed consideration. All materials should be sent by regular mail in hard copy, although applicants are encouraged to contact us by email initially if desired. The University of Illinois is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer, and we welcome applications from minority and women candidates.
