Research:
My research focuses on how knowledge may or may not affect attention when viewing "physics" pictures and solving physics problems. One project uses the flicker technique to induce change blindness on images that include physics and non-physics items. I am interested in knowing if physics experts can more quickly identify changes made to physics items.

Another project uses a memory test to measure which features of physics diagrams are remembered by physicists and non-physicists. Differences in the way that these two groups of people characterize the pictures will also be studied.

I have also used eye-tracking to study the way that physics students watch animations of balls rolling on tracks. You can view interesting animations of eye-tracking data here.
